General Description
The QN8000 is a low-power high-performance single-chip stereo FM transmitter designed for low-power portable audio/video multimedia devices, cell phones, GPS personal navigation devices, and automotive accessories.
The QN8000 integrates complete transmitter functions, from stereo audio input to RF antenna port, for worldwide FM band personal area broadcast. It includes variable input gain programming, selectable pre-emphasis, precision low-spur MPX stereo encoding and pilot tone generation, low-noise PLL-synthesized modulation, variable output level power amplifier, and band-pass filtering, which ensures optimum transmit spectrum purity.
An integrated crystal oscillator and on-chip digital calibration circuits eliminate the need for external tuning components and enable tuning-free manufacturing. The support for a 7.6 MHz reference clock and crystals ensures high audio performance. The chip also incorporates integrated saturation detection and a programmable audio interface to eliminate distortion, optimize audio fidelity, and support a wide range of input audio levels. With its low-power idle mode, it substantially extends battery life. A built-in LDO allows direct connection to the battery and provides high PSRR for superior noise suppression, particularly the TDMA noise from GSM/GPRS phones.
The QN8000 can be operated continuously from 76MHz to 108MHz, supporting FM broadcast bands in North America, Europe, Asia, and Japan. Both 2 and 3-wire serial interfaces are provided for simple access to all programmable functions. A parallel (static GPIO) control interface is also available for simplified operation without an MCU.
